Cheerleading Information
Registration for Cheerleading with Apex Sports Authority is currently open. Please
follow registration instructions on this website.
Team assignments and coaches’ information will be communicated to cheerleaders by
the end of June. The start of our season is on or about August 1. All cheer practices
will be held outside at the Apex Community Center or Norris Park athletic field.
Mandatory “conditioning” is required for the first 2 weeks of practice and will
run nightly from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Following the first two weeks, practice will be
held twice a week at the discretion of each team’s coaches.
Cheerleaders will be given a uniform and pom poms provided by ASA which will need
to be turned in at the end of the season. Girls will also need to purchase additional
uniform items (crop top, bloomers, shoes and hair bow) through our designated vendor.
Those items do not need to be turned in at the end of the season.
Girls will be required to cheer weekly at their assigned football team’s games which
will be held on Saturdays beginning in late August. Each team will travel according
to the schedule that will be communicated after the season starts.
Information will be provided regarding fundraising and volunteer duties. All cheer
parents are required to fulfill volunteer tasks which include, but are not limited
to, shifts at the entrance gate, concession stand and in the spirit wear tent at
home games.
Non-competitive cheer teams (Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite) will participate in a cheerleading
Exhibition in October as well as any bowl games according to their assigned football
team’s schedule.
Competitive cheer teams (Junior Pee Wee and above) will participate in a local competition
in October. If the team places 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, they will advance to Regional competition
held in Raleigh on Thanksgiving weekend. If a team places 1st or 2nd at Regionals, they will
advance to the National Competition
at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL on or around the first week of December
with an estimated per person package cost of approximately $400 which includes the
minimum 3-night stay with 4-day Park Hopper pass. Please be aware of the additional
time commitment and expense of participating on a competitive-level team.

Cheerleading Coaching
ASA Cougars Cheerleading teams are always in need of head coaches and assistant
coaches at all levels. Coaching for the Cougars is a fun and rewarding experience.
Cheerleaders support their football teams while gaining skills and experience under
YOUR leadership! Not to mention having the absolute BEST time cheering at games,
at exhibition and competition as well as at practices.
Head coaches are required to complete certification training in person usually held
in July. Once you complete certification training as a head coach, you are certified
for 3 years! Assistant coaches are encouraged to attend training also but can complete
their requirement with an online course. At least one coach per team needs to be
First Aid and CPR certified as well.
Please consider joining our coaching staff so we may continue to provide a challenging
and exciting program for our cheerleaders and support all of our ASA football teams.
If you are interested, please indicate so on your child’s registration or e-mail
us at
Cheerleading@ASAcougars.com.
Cheerleading "Hall of Fame"
The ASA Cougars Cheerleaders have had a great history of success. Our non-competitive
teams always perform well at exhibition and our competitive teams consistently reach
the top of their divisions and advance to Regional and National competitions. Check
out our placements in past competitions!
