Cheer & Dance Information

Registration for Cheer & Dance with Apex Sports Authority is currently open. Please follow registration instructions on this website.

For the 2013 season, ASA is offering two dance teams in addition to our cheerleading teams. Our Mitey Mite level will be a dance team for girls ages 7-9 (as of July 31st). Dance teams perform sideline cheers at football games and perform a choreographed dance routine at half-time. Dance teams cannot perform stunts. No prior experience is necessary and there are no try-outs. We are also offering a dance team at the competitive Jr Pee Wee level for girls ages 8-11 (as of July 31st). There will also be cheer teams at the Jr Pee Wee and above levels so please indicate your selection on your registration.

Non-competitive cheer and dance teams (Tiny Mite and Mitey Mite) will participate in a cheer/dance Exhibition in October as well as any bowl games according to their assigned football team’s schedule.

Competitive cheer teams (Junior Pee Wee, Pee Wee and Jr Midget) will participate in a local competition in October. If the team places 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, they will advance to Regional competition held in Raleigh on Thanksgiving weekend. If a team places 1st or 2nd at Regionals, they will advance to the National Competition at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL on or around the second week of December with an estimated per person package cost of approximately $400 which includes the minimum 3-night stay with 4-day Park Hopper pass. Please be aware of the additional time commitment and expense of participating on a competitive-level team.

All team assignments and coaches’ information will be communicated to cheerleaders & dancers by the end of June. The start of our season is August 1. All practices will be held outside at the Apex Community Center or Norris Park athletic field. Mandatory “conditioning” is required for the first 2 weeks of practice and will run nightly from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Following the first two weeks, practice will be held twice a week at the discretion of each team’s coaches.

Cheerleaders will be given a uniform and pom poms provided by ASA which will need to be turned in at the end of the season. Cheerleaders will also need to purchase additional uniform items (crop top, bloomers, shoes and hair bow) which will be yours to keep. Dancers will be given a uniform by ASA to wear at games and a dance costume for exhibition/competition performances. Dancers will need to purchase shoes and accessories through our designated vendor.

Girls will be required to “cheer” weekly at their assigned football team’s games which will be held every Saturday beginning in late August. Each team will travel according to the schedule that will be communicated after the season starts.

Information will be provided regarding fundraising and volunteer duties. All cheer/dance parents are required to fulfill volunteer tasks which include, but are not limited to, shifts at the entrance gate, concession stand and in the spirit wear tent at home games.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at Cheerleading@ASAcougars.com. We hope you will join us!

Cheer & Dance Coaching

ASA Cougars Cheer and Dance teams are always in need of head coaches and assistant coaches at all levels. Coaching for the Cougars is a fun and rewarding experience. Cheerleaders and dancers support their football teams while gaining skills and experience under YOUR leadership! Not to mention having the absolute BEST time cheering at games, at exhibition and competition as well as at practices.

Head coaches are required to complete certification training in person usually held in July. Once you complete certification training as a head coach, you are certified for 3 years! Assistant coaches are encouraged to attend training also but can complete their requirement with an online course. At least one coach per team needs to be First Aid and CPR certified as well.

Please consider joining our coaching staff so we may continue to provide a challenging and exciting program for our cheerleaders and dancers and support all of our ASA football teams. If you are interested, please indicate so on your child’s registration or e-mail us at Cheerleading@ASAcougars.com.

Cheerleading "Hall of Fame"

The ASA Cougars Cheerleaders have had a great history of success. Our non-competitive teams always perform well at exhibition and our competitive teams consistently reach the top of their divisions and advance to Regional and National competitions. Check out our placements in past competitions!
