Apex Sports Authority Grapplers Make Their Mark

On January 17th, several ASA wrestlers competed in the 1st Annual North Carolina AAU Rookie Championships. The event was open to all wrestlers K-8th in their 1st-3rd year of wrestling. The Lumberton Seadogs played host to the tournament. Over 300 competitors from more than 20 teams participated.

Will Wheeler (Junior 90lbs) and Eric Montoya (Midget 65lbs) both went undefeated on their way to being crowned Tournament Champions. Justin Kidd, also wrestling in the Junior 90lbs Division, fought his way to a 2nd place finish. Justin’s only loss on the day was at the hands of his teammate, Will Wheeler.

In the Schoolboy 105lb Division, Charles Witosky of ASA found himself in a tough battle in the match for 3rd/4th place. After rallying to tie the score just prior to the end of regulation time, Charles was able to pull out a sudden death victory in double over-time. An exhausted and ecstatic Witosky then took his place on the awards stand with a 3rd place finish.

Strong tournament efforts were turned in as well by Seth Geiser, competing in two weigh classes (Junior 75/80) and Cole Johnston (Schoolboy 130).

Congratulations to all our wrestlers for continuing to wrestle hard and represent ASA Wrestling in such an admirable way.
